Fortified Zones talk at ISCP
FORTIFIED ZONES International Studio & Curatorial Program Sunday, May 10, 2009 2-4 pm Hakan Topal/xurban_collective and Alex Villar discuss the question of fortifications as they apply to the urban environment. In a single presentation, they discuss the ideas that inform their distinct art practices and develop an argument for contesting art tactics. They propose the term Fortified Zones as a shorthand for a variety of power mechanisms and exclusion/inclusion strategies at play in the contemporary world. Starting from the conceptual framework created by the exhibition Financial District, they unfold its ramifications onto the spatial field as manifested in geo-politics, urban renewal policies and culture at large.
