Critical Dialogues workshop at Umea
CRITICAL DIALOGUES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FINE ARTS UMEA Critical Dialogues workshop by Alex Villar at the University of Fine Arts, Umea, Sweden. The goal of this two-part workshop is to bring the student into dialogical exchange with current contemporary artistic production. In part I, I initially present my own work in relation to a few paradigmatic artists, then in relation to current practitioners who are also collaborators and finally as it relates to critical theory. Parts I and II is separated by a substantial interval. In part II, the proposition is to assist the students in approaching their own production in the terms sketched out in part I. Contextual thinking, critical approach and dialogical exchange are not only the fundamentals of this workshop, they are also the main requirements for a productive engagement with the current cultural field.
